Resumen

Sport has achieved a very important social relevance after the Second World War. Already at the beginning of the 20th century it began to gain importance, although it is with the development of the media that it reaches global relevance. At events such as the Olympic Games, the Tour de France or the World Cup, sport is no longer perceived as a personal hobby. These events go beyond the private sphere of the participants and take on such a public dimension that sport achieves a special status in societies around the world. Athletes are seen as the new heroes of the countries, cities or clubs they represent. And it is this public notoriety that interests sponsors who are willing to invest large sums of money to be associated with the athlete's triumph and, consequently, with his or her image as a winner. The other side of the coin is the great public disappointment that occurs with the defeat of their idols or when the -fair play‖ or -game limpio‖ that should characterize sports activities is transgressed. The expectations that are created in some situations are so high that professional athletes are faced with a situation of extreme responsibility. On the other hand, the confidence that the spectators have in this great entertainment that is the professional sport, is broken if the competition is not fair and the -fair play‖ of the competition is not maintained. The greatness of the competitive sport is the uncertainty of the result, which makes that the effort of the sportsman is valued. When this situation of -fair play‖ is broken the need to claim justice is generated. A justice that is applied by the corresponding sanctioning bodies of each federation, at regional, state or international level.
