Resumen
Financial education is the process by which individuals acquire a better understanding of financial concepts and products and develop the skills necessary to make informed decisions, assess financial risks and opportunities, and improve their well-being. This study aims to assess the level of financial education in middle school students of the official educational institutions of the city of Ibagué in order to measure their financial knowledge through the identification of curricula and the operationalization of strategies in the field of financial education implemented by said educational institutions. The investigation arises due to the results of the PISA 2012 tests carried out by the organization for cooperation and economic development (OECD), Colombia ranked last among 18 countries with a score of 379, without being able to exceed the average of 500 points in terms of financial competence, this test assesses the students' knowledge of the schools about account and bank card management, planning their finances, the compression of risks, interest or taxes. The results reflect the lack of a financial education chair implemented within the institutions, the lack of incorporation of curricula that help the development of financial education and the lack of strategies and projects that foster practice. These results suggest that students do not possess great knowledge in financial education.
