Resumen
One of the main problems affecting the different cities of the world is mobility; and the city of Ibagué, capital of the department of Tolima in Colombia, is no exception. The most inconvenient places are road intersections, and this is reflected in their high accident rates and evident congestion at peak demand times. The use of roundabouts has increased considerably due to their high capacity to manage and make motorized traffic safer, but the impact is not so positive on pedestrians and cyclists; this is why the objective of this project is to design a proposal for geometric intervention to improve the current conditions of the roundabout of the 5th and 44th streets in Ibagué, following the recommendations of the Global Guide to Street Design (National Association of City Transportation Officials, 2014). This with the aim of reducing the number of traffic accidents in the city, prioritizing the traditionally forgotten users and organizing vehicle flows. Starting from a topographic survey, an inventory of physical conditions, identifying mobility patterns, use and functions of the street space. With the analysis of this information, an intervention model will be made that transforms the current conditions of the intersection, prioritizing non-motorized users and organizing the other modes of transport.
