Different studies affirm that assertiveness is a fundamental competence for the climate of the school classroom, which depends among other factors, on the quality in the relationship that teachers establish with their students. This reflection article is derived from the framework project entitled “Tools for the construction of peace and coexistence in school contexts” developed by the Universidad del Rosario and the University of Ibagué, which seeks to encourage good coexistence guidelines and provide tools for teachers to handle some of the frequent conflict situations in the classroom. For this reflection exercise, the authors reviewed 5 studies published between 2013 and 2020 in specialized databases, which were analyzed using the following categories generated from the literature review: 1. Definition of the Assertiveness as a competence in formal education 2.Conceptions of assertiveness as a competence in formal education and 3. Factors associated with assertiveness. The results show a positive relationship between the assertive behaviors of the teacher and the positive classroom climate, this indicates the need to continue exploring assertiveness as a fundamental training need for teachers and students, due to its potential as a tool for preventing aggression. in the classroom.
