The University of Ibagué (UI), has had a growth in students in the last 10 years of more than 60%, that is to say, from having 3600 students in the year 2006 to 6000 during the first semester of 2016, at par with the growth of the number of students, the infrastructure has also grown and has been invested in the construction of classrooms, laboratories, offices as well as in the acquisition of equipment for teaching and the administrative part. Contrario, with this growth, the university's energy consumption has remained constant from 2006 to 2016 between 500 and 600 MWh / year, due to different activities carried out during the implementation of the energy management program since 2006. This study aims to perform an evaluation of an experimental network for a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 5.0 kW at the University of Ibagué, dimensioning its components. the research methods used were analysis and synthesis, the sizing and the different design phases were involved for a network with 5.0 kWp capacity. The tracking of information necessary for the execution of the different phases of the project was acquired from several sources: electronic, normative and scientific-academic. We selected 20 solar panels of the brand CANADIAN SOLAR of 270 W polycrystalline and an inverter XTENDER reference X TH 6000. It was possible to define the specific characteristics of the wiring and ground pole, as well as the design of the corresponding metallic structure. As well as feasibility: where the estimated budget was COP $ 32.222.676, with a return on investment of approximately 9.7 years, for the presented design. The results reveal a viability according to the parameters established within the guidelines of the macroproject.
