This document was directed to the analysis of all the factors that directly or indirectly influence solid waste management. It was initially carried out from the latent problems, and it was mainly determined the inadequate management of organic waste that is not being used. This study was developed in the social market place la 21, in the city of Ibagué during the months of March and July of this year, time in which the appropriate and necessary information was collected to carry out the analysis and answer the research question and comply with the approved objective. As a result of this research, it was found that the main factors that cause the inadequate management of organic waste start from the bad practices that are carried out in the separation of the source, the lack of environmental education on the part of the merchants and administrators. Therefore, a proposal for a waste management model as a strategy for continuous improvement to be implemented as a means to the optimal use of these in the social market place la 21.
