This project aims to provide present and future structural designers with a concise idea of the possible economic difference; between designs that involve two of the three energy dissipation capabilities contemplated by the Colombian earthquake resistant standard NSR-10, "DMO vs DES". For this purpose, the calculation and design of three symmetrical structures of four, seven and ten levels were proposed, subjecting them to specific conditions; such as a soil profile type D, intermediate seismicity level for the city of Ibague, and structural system aporticado applying in turn the requirements for DMO and DES demanded in the NSR-10, in order to estimate costs; and to obtain supports submitted to comparative judgments, to determine with which capacity of energy dissipation it will be economically convenient to design for DMO or DES.
