In this proposal it was proposed to carry out the thermal and mechanical design of a plate heat exchanger. The system that is designed is open to processes of cooling or heating of water in a closed cycle for greater optimization of the system and maximum use of resources. The design contemplated the thermal and mechanical system to ensure that the equipment meets its objective, in addition it was proposed what is the necessary instrumentation to verify the behavior of variables such as temperature, pressure and flow at the inlet and outlet of the exchanger. One aspect that was taken into account was to leave the mechanical design open to future modifications, allowing the incorporation of necessary accessories for the continuous modernization of the system, allowing the university to have an academic growth in terms of energy use with the study of heat exchangers With this vision, the first step was taken in the creation of a line of research regarding heat exchangers, allowing the development of various degree options for other students, also that the university can achieve national recognition in the area of heat transfer, and in the longer term future, give the university the option of opening a technical course of heat exchangers. For the execution of this approach, the design methods proposed by different authors had to be considered, this in order to select the most appropriate method according to the system conditions, seeking to obtain high performance in the equipment. The design tried to take into account the TEMA standards, an aspect that proved very difficult since they refer entirely to tube exchangers; and the ASME regulations that are a bit more open in terms of their specifications for heat exchangers. These are international standards that establish the basic conditions of the device, and indicate concrete guidelines on the proper thermal and mechanical design of a heat exchanger.
