The study was developed using a mixed research approach, simultaneously applying quantitative and qualitative methods for greater understanding and precision of the data. The research was carried out through two phases: i) in the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were carried out with teachers and administrators, which allowed knowing how they perceive the contributions of the university for the development of the region, and ii) In the quantitative phase of the study, surveys in Likert format were applied to a sample of 299 students. Specialized software packages from SPSS (quantitative analysis) and ATLAS.ti (qualitative analysis) were used for data analysis. These tools allowed exploring various ways of analyzing the results, based on the set of study variables defined. Among the main results it was found that both teachers, administrators and students consider that the University of Ibagué has made significant contributions to the development of the region, from its missionary functions: teaching, research and extension, which according to Peñate and Torres (2018) are essential for an effective contribution to regional development. Contributions such as the Peace and Region Semester, the Legal Office, research applied to the needs of the region and comprehensive training that takes into account the context of the region are highlighted.
