- PublicaciónRestringidoEstudio de las características físicas, mecánicas y reológicas de una mezcla asfáltica modificada utilizando desechos de PVC(Universidad de Ibagué, 2018) Carriño Orjuela, Henrry Francisco; Camelo Varón, Andrés Felipe; Salazar Susunaga, María PaulaIn this work the physical, rheological and mechanical characteristics of a modified asphalt mixture are studied by adding 3% PVC of the weight of the asphalt cement. The work includes a phase of research about the properties of aggregates and asphalt, and its influence on the behavior of an asphalt mixture. The second phase of the work includes the experimental development that consists of the characterization of the aggregate, asphalt and modified asphalt adding 3% of PVC of its weight. Due to the absence of sizes from 4.75 mm to 9.50 mm, the amount of gravel in the dosage of the aggregate mixture is limited to conform to the grading of a MDC-19, this causes an increase in the content of voids in the mixture and the increase in flow values (plastic deformations). As for the results of the modified asphalt, the softening point, viscosity and penetration are improved by improving the resistance of the mixture to permanent deformations (resistance to rutting) at high service temperatures, while at low temperatures there is greater thermal susceptibility of both asphalts decreasing fatigue resistance and leading to damage by cracking in the mixture. The above indicates that a CA 60-70 should be used in hot climates as well as a CA 60-70 modified with PVC. In general, the mechanical properties of the modified asphalt mixture: Marshall stability and Marshall stiffness were not improved due to the limited amount of gravel in the asphalt mixture and its influence on the resistance to plastic deformation.
