The present project is made with the goal of producing a biofuel from crude fish oil, which will be called RBD, so that it can be used as a substitute for commercial diesel, and reduce the negative environmental impacts of the waste produced by regional fishing activity, as well as the emissions generated by the use of fossil fuels. Its execution is divided into four methodological phases that are: i) the collection and refinement of the raw material (crude oil), ii) its subsequent characterization according to the ASTMD6751-0 standard, to perform the performance tests on internal combustion engines, iii) an analysis of the results of these tests, which were conducted at a Lister power plant owned by the University of Ibague, using mixtures of 10% 30% and 50% of RBD oil with commercial diesel, and iv) a performance comparison with that obtained using other fuels (commercial diesel, biodiesel). Obtaining as a result that the lower samples of the elaborated biofuel (RBD30 and lower) are optimal to be used in stationary engines, since they comply with the parameters given by the regulations. The investigation allows to conclude that the use of the fuel mixture progressively helps the decrease of polluting agents as the amount of RBD oil increases. However, the power and torque of the engine also decrease in minimum percentages, and the fuel consumption registers a slight increase compared to the two alternatives.
